One Month Away from My Last Semester—And the Hustle is Real

In just one month, I’ll be stepping into my final semester of college. A bittersweet moment that comes with a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and a whole lot of hustle. It’s wild to think that in six short months, I’ll be walking across the graduation stage and straight into a new phase of life...job hunting.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. The job market is tough right now. Scroll through any job board, and you’ll see the same thing over and over: companies asking for 2+ years of experience for entry-level positions. It's frustrating, and honestly, a little disheartening. That pressure to already be “qualified” before even starting your career can feel overwhelming.
Truthfully, that fear has weighed on me more than I’d like to admit. Still, I’ve been pushing myself to build up my resume, and while it’s been stressful, it’s also incredibly rewarding. If college has taught me anything, it's this: networking is everything.
Just last month, I traveled to Medellín, Colombia, on a service trip. During those two weeks, I connected with the director of the organization. By the end of the trip, I was encouraged to apply for a Creative Director role. I went for it, and I’m proud to say I got the position.
So now, I’m officially the Creative Director for Children Beyond Our Borders, and yes, that title still makes me proud. But that’s not the only thing on my plate. I also volunteered to run social media for my little sister’s high school band program (a full-circle moment for me as an alum), and I currently work part-time on the marketing and communications team at Balance 180 Gymnastics & Sports Academy.
Is it a lot? Oh, absolutely. Maybe even a bit ambitious. But I know I can handle it, and more importantly, I know why I’m doing it.
I'm doing it for the experience. Every role I take on is another opportunity to sharpen my skills, grow my network, and prepare myself for life after college. By the time I graduate from the University of Florida, I’ll look back not just on the degree I earned, but on the journey that helped shape me into a confident, capable professional.
And when recruiters ask about that 2+ years of experience? I’ll be ready.
